As noted before, the web and computer monitors are not the best ways to present a high resolution image. The best resolution on your monitor is 72 ppi. I master and print at 300 dpi. Detail is always lost on the web. It is even worse on highly detailed images. For large prints, such as I present on these pages, detail and sharpness is always lost on the web. |

This inset is presented as an example. Notice how soft the full view looks compared to the inset. Notice how the detail disappears. Keep in mind that the inset view of the Egret's head is still only at 72 ppi. The sad fact is that a fair quality 4x6 inch print can look as good, sometimes even better than a much larger image due to the way that images are processed for the web. Simply, a 250 mb image would cause your browser and many computers to gag. This picture is mastered as a 24x36 inch print, though I prefer it in a slightly cropped 24 x 30 inch size. |
